The team will work alongside existing social work, family support and community services, adding dedicated capacity where families would benefit from earlier and more flexible help.

The development forms part of South Lanarkshire's Care Close to Home approach and helps deliver The Promise - a national commitment to ensure that all children and young people grow up loved, safe, and respected so they can realize their full potential.

Councillor Margaret Walker, Chair of the Social Work Resources Committee, said: "This is a positive investment in local social work services and in the children, young people and families who need support at important points in their lives.

"It reflects our focus on making sure support is available when and where it is needed, helping people access the practical support and trusted relationships that make the biggest difference."

Professor Soumen Sengupta, Chief Officer for Health and Social Care for South Lanarkshire, said: "From speaking with families, I know the difference timely, practical support can make.

"Strong families and strong communities are the foundation for good outcomes. Our Care Close to Home approach reflects the priority we attach to strengthening support around families, building on relationships and local networks so that more children and young people can thrive within their own communities.

"Our new Families First Team is another important step in putting that approach into practice by providing additional support where it is needed most and helping families access the right help at the right time."
